The Quality Control Specialist will be responsible to assist in the implementation of Calpine Corporation's quality related policies and procedures necessary to assure compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations pertaining to power boilers, pressure vessels and power piping systems, where required, at each of our operating power plant facilities.

The Quality Control Specialist will be responsible to assist in the implementation of Calpine Corporation's quality related policies and procedures necessary to assure compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations pertaining to power boilers, pressure vessels and power piping systems, where required, at each of our operating power plant facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in implementing Calpine Corporation’s Boiler and Pressure Vessel Compliance program to assure proper stamping, permitting, inspection, notification and repair / alteration of power boilers, pressure vessels and power piping, where required.
Assist in conducting training and supervision of company employees as necessary to assure proper implementation and compliance with of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Compliance program and Pressure Vessel Inspection procedure.
Assist in the development of other procedure to ensure compliance with industry codes and practices.
Monitor 3rd party “R” Stamp quality control program in accordance with approved ASME/NBIC QC Manual and current Certificates of Authorization.
Participate in inspections and or audits for the development of an Approved R-Stamp Contractors List, including thorough review of proposed contractor’s qualifications (i.e.; Certificates of Authorization, QC Manual, WPS’s, WPQR’s, NDE and PWHT procedures, Licensing, etc.).
When directed, provide technical support to all company departments, groups, regions and operating plant personnel as needed to ensure continued fleet reliability and availability.
Conduct quality control audits of new construction projects. Review project submittals for compliance with Calpine and industry standards.
Assist in conducting condition assessments of power boilers and high energy piping systems.
Qualifications:
Fifteen (15) years of experience related to design, construction, inspection, testing, maintenance and repair / alteration of ASME power boilers, pressure vessels and piping systems. Ten (10) years must include quality assurance and or quality control management, five (5) years of which must include management and or implementation of NBIC “R” Stamp repair / alteration program.
Must have basic understanding of State Jurisdictional boiler and pressure vessel rules and regulations, and have:
Working knowledge and experience with ASME, NBIC, ASTM, ASNT, API, PFI, MSS, AISC, and AWS Codes and Standards.
Experience in all aspects of power plant construction, fabrication, maintenance and repairs / alterations, with specific experience related to natural gas fired combined cycle power plants.
Extensive working knowledge and experience with SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, and SAW welding processes, including qualification of welding procedure and welder performance qualification testing.
Working knowledge and experience in non-destructive examinations (ie; RT, UT, MT and PT) of welds and base materials in accordance with approved company procedures and ASME/NBIC QC Manual.
Good verbal and written communications skills and ability to convey technical knowledge and criteria to a vast range of professionals and organizations.
Good typing and computer skills, including use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other windows based software applications as needed.
Ability to travel, including expense reimbursement.
Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
